Anyone travel on Iceland Air or Norwegian Air?

Has anyone here traveled on Iceland Air or Norwegian Air? We are looking for flights to Copenhagen in july and these airlines seem to be the cheapest, especially when you consider tickets for a family of four ! I am a bit nervous about flying with these airlines - currently thinking of leaving a couple of days earlier than we need to be in Copenhagen, just to be cautious. I know Norwegian charges extra for everything - checked baggage, any food/drink on the flights.

If you pay upfront, NAS will not charge you an extra penny. I recommend doing this; it is cheaper than adding these items later. They fly very nice Dreamliners to Europe. Mr. really liked them.

I have done Iceland Air and been quite happy. UK kid suggested it, as the benefit of going through Iceland instead of London or Amsterdam is that you rarely miss your connection, it’s all the same airline, moving all the people from North America to Iceland and from Europe to Iceland, then musical airplanes for the next destination. So, if your first flight is delayed, the airline generally seems to work around it. No sleeping in Heathrow!

PS: DH got upgraded to first class for the first flight, it was NICE. I did not get upgraded which made for some really amusing post flight stories

Iceland air is great and many people take advantage of a 2 or 3 day layover. Unless you are booking up front, be aware that the seating is most definitely economy.

I am putting my son on a RT September Iceland air flight from Minneapolis to London for only $700 via Reykjavik.

We have always flown KLM/Delta through Amsterdam to Copenhagen. Tip - Delta seems to want to control my flight options, so I always take a peek at the KLM site and I usually find additional options. Grrrr

Did you try SAS airlines?

Iceland Air is very nice, not really a “no frills” airline anymore. I would avoid Iceland Express, they are a bit of a logistical disaster IME. I have no experience with Norwegian, but I’m very tempted by their low fares to CDG!

We have flown Iceland Air a few times. We have never had a problem with any connections ( once we stayed right there in Iceland as the destination ) The seats are not the roomiest , but what can you expect for those prices ?
Have only flown Norwegian Air from Copenhagen to Edinburgh and it was fine…kind of like flying with Southwest here in the USA.

Another option is Air Canada. When D2 had a summer class in Venice, it was cheapest to fly Air Canada from DC to Toronto to Copenhagen (she stayed there a few days and then made her way to Italy).

Much easier to change planes in Toronto while you’re still awake!

Norwegian is perfectly fine! Mr. likes to fly them from Oakland or Vegas to Stockholm - NON_STOP. That is a huge bonus for him to not deal with a plane change in Amsterdam or Copenhagen. They fly Dreamliners (aka Boeing 787), so the planes are new and nice. Pre-paying a bit more for the checked bag, seat selection, and meal at the time of the purchase is still way cheaper than the competition.

Daughter and niece flew Iceland Air on spring break. They stayed in Iceland two days, then continued to Copenhagen. They had no complaints. What are your concerns?

I flew IcelandAir in February roundtrip from JFK to Reykjavik. Great airline with no problems either way.

Norwegian Air Non stop LAX to CDG
budget class only 259 one way. !
and even more impressive–1st class 820 one way!!
I had no idea.

We flew WOW Air to Iceland last year. It is a discount carrier, and was significantly cheaper than Icelandair at the time. It also flies to Copenhagen through Reykjavik. It was fine.

From JFK you can get $199 or even $170 in September and October… so tempting…

Well those are not BS numbers. Mr. traveled on NAS and paid $600 for his RT and that included the pre-paid extras.

^^^ Right. Checking one bag and choosing a seat will cost you around $100 each way. It’s still a great fare though.

Last time I flew, Iceland included two bags at no extra charge

Iceland Air from NY to Reykjavik was fine and relatively inexpensive. Lots of people on our flight were doing the layover option between US and Europe. We brought our own food onboard but they did have things available for purchase.

I really like Iceland Air. They upgraded us and where really nice. And their check in people don’t act like they are working there as part of their community service.

We flew Iceland Air to spend New Year’s there in Iceland. There are no better fireworks…anywhere. The airlines had very professional and helpful staff. They were very good at getting us to our connecting points and directing the crowds. I would always recommend that airline.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I think we are going to go ahead and book tickets this weekend.

We are planning on a cruise that leaves Wed - cheapest flight is Norwegian Air on Tuesday. A little nervous about doing that - since any cancellations would affect our cruise. So, I think we’ll do the next cheapest option and fly Iceland Air on Sunday instead. Gives us a couple of days in Copenhagen before the cruise.
