anyone tried brilliant.org

I am wondering how school aged children could benefit from brilliant.org. I have two sons in grade 3 and 5, and am considering a lifetime subscription for them at $599.99.

It seems that they have a variety of interesting math and science courses, which I think could help children esp for math when combined with artofproblemsolving mat’l.

Anyone tried brilliant.org for their children… How did it go? What are pros and cons? Would a lifetime membership make sense?

Thank you very much in advance for your response.

Do your kids like math and science courses? Do they like them $600 worth?

This would not have been useful at all for my kid.

In my opinion there isn’t much that paying for a lifetime membership is worth it no matter the venue. Especially for educational opportunities. Way too much out there and things and companies come and go very rapidly in this digital age. I would not even consider it.

@honeyharasho

You have young kids.

My question…what do YOU hope to gain by doing this…??

Seriously, you’d pay $600 without even trying the $10 or $25 plans?

A bit more info on our situation:

-My kids have tried brilliant.org albeit without subscription and liked it. And I have read many positive testimonials on quora, artofproblemsolving.com forums, etc.

-Almost all the math courses on briliant.org seem to be within my older son’s level (if not now, then in next couple of years). He enjoys and does a lot of math every day; he is trying to qualify for AIME as a 5th grader next month through AMC 10 tests. In the future, I can also picture my son(s) taking advantage of physics and other science courses on brilliant.org.

-$600 for a lifetime membership seems not that unreasonable given our experiences with aops and other educational classes. My son has done several AoPS online math classes, and they range from ~$300 to $520 per class. Also, $600 is equivalent to about five years of annual subscriptions so my thinking was if we were going to use it more than five years, which is likely, then, it is probably better to go for the lifelong membership.

-Still, our experience on brilliant.org is rather limited. That is why I wanted to hear from people who have actually used it.

Thank you everyone for your responses.
