Anyone use an Infared Blow Dryer?

I have very thick wavy hair that I fight constantly to straighten. I just happened upon an article recommending infared blow dryers. They seem expensive - anyone think they are worth it?

They are also called ceramic or ionic. They arent any more expensive than the old kind. Not more than $20 or so .

Oh…I didn’t realize they were the same. When I googled the ones I saw were > $100.

Thanks!

I also have thick wavy hair. Instead of trying to fight it (and in humid weather it’s a lost cause anyway), get a good haircut and enjoy the waves!

Ditto. Look at naturallycurly.com.

Nope…I refuse. I love it straight (or at least almost straight)!

I would get a hairdryer with a diffuser for blowing it dry and still retaining the waves.
For smoother hair, use a ionic paddle brush with a silicone serum. ( but not all the time & desilicone your hair once a week)
Conditioning your hair really well, like with using a hair oil and leaving it in overnight before you wash it will also keep the frizz quotient down.

My friend bought one of those blow dryers and swears by it. I chose the much more expensive keratin treatment and I am loving it. My natural hair is horrid - Rosanna Rosanna Danna-ish.

I also use a flat iron.

I have found that my ionic blow dryer works much better a non-ionic one to straighten my very wavy/curly hair. Mine was pretty pricey and I love it–don’t know about less expensive models. I use a larger round brush when drying my hair–even went to ‘blowdry bootcamp’ to learn how to blow dry my rather unruly hair…more recently I’ve had brazillian straightening at my salon and, although pricey, it’s worth every cent.

One warning about ionic-emitting devices: if you or someone around you has a lung condition (e.g. asthma or worse), these devices can worsen breathing. For folks with no lung conditions, it shouldn’t be an issue, but just saying for those 10% of us who are sensitive!

Hm… I have asthma and have never had an issue with my half dozen ionic devices… though HEAT triggers me no matter what so the blow dryer isn’t any fun. May have to pay more attention.

collage, do you know the brand of your dryer? I am in the market for a new one. My conair is actually still working perfectly after something like ten years, but I am in the market for something nicer.
