Anyone use AVEDA smooth infusion for frizzy, poofy, curly hair?

I have curly hair that is so dry and thick. It looks okay wet, but when it dries it puffs out. And if I push it behind my ears it literally puffs out a few inches. I have tried so many products, one of them being Ouidad which did nothing for me. I now use tons of gel which makes it so dry but at least keeps it down and not puffy.

My dream is to find something that takes the poof away and gives it shine. I don’t mind the curls.

Someone recommended AVEDA smooth infusion shampoo, conditioner, style prep smoother, light elements smoothing fluid and style prep smoother. It is extremely expensive and I wanted to hear from others who have my type of hair.

Will watch this thread - that’s me - curly, frizzy (summer) and poofy!

I love Aveda products and I would give the Smooth Infusion a try. My hairdresser likes Renee Furterer (I think that is the spelling) better than Aveda, though. I think it is hard to tell which Furterer products are the right ones without the hairdresser telling you, though.

My hairdresser has curly hair and swears by the Deva Curl line of products. I tried it on my wavy hair and it did eliminate frizz but made my hair curlier than I like.

I’m the queen of frizzy, poofy hair. I have thick wavy hair with a lot of body and have struggled with it all my life. Over the years I’ve used many high end products. I have no qualms about spending money on hair products. However, in the last 5 years or so, many cheaper brands have come out with excellent products.

-Am currently using and loving ‘Pantene’s Frizzy to Smooth for Medium to Thick Hair’ Shampoo and Conditioner. This works so well, my son tried it on vacation and loved it (he also has thick curly hair).

-Also use with great results - Herbal Essences ’ Dangerously Straight’ shampoo and conditioner.

I also use Moroccan Oil "Hydrating Styling Cream’ and sometimes their Oil (I either mix the two together in my hand or I use the cream by itself). The Moroccan Oil Cream is pretty expensive ($40 a bottle) but it lasts for at least six months and it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever used to help smooth my hair.

I also own and use a T3 Wet to Dry Flat Iron (though I don’t use it wet) that is a miracle worker (it’s pricey though at $200).

When I want to let my hair dry naturally, so it curls but doesn’t frizz and poof, I use Pantene’s Curly Spray Gel. This is my all time favorite Curl spray, it works wonders for separating my waves with no frizziness. I recently went into a panic because Pantene changed bottles and the name slightly and I thought they stopped making it.

Lastly, I generally wash and dry my hair before bedtime. By the morning, it has flatten considerably. My hair only needs to be washed every other day unless I’ve been exercising.

I purchased some Moroccan Argan Oil about a month ago and I really love how it makes my hair feel. I was having issues with dryness and just a tiny bit of the oil has been very effective. I saw some very expensive hair care products containing Argan oil, but I purchased a less expensive product at the drug store; brand is Organix.

The best product that I have ever found at any price is the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair serum. I have really thick hair, so I can’t recommend it if your hair is thin, but it is the only thing that has made my hair behave. A little goes a very long way, however.

My girls and I use an anti-frizz potion we get at Sephora. It’s made by Phyto and is called Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm. It’s kind of expensive but a tube lasts a long time.

I haven’t tried these products myself, but I was looking on makeupalley for reviews of shampoos and came across these Dove products that had great reviews:

I’ve tried the John Frieda “frizze-ease” products and the phyto ones and all the Kiehl’s “serums” you’re supposed to use to get smooth and shiny hair. The only thing that worked for me is: washing my hair a lot less than I think I should wash it (i.e., not once a day – more like wait until you can’t stand it anymore). The oil in your hair helps weight down the frizz (who knew?).

Another tip (from D) – wash your hair at night; use a leave in conditioner (Garnier makes a nice one) and DON’T TOUCH IT. So much of frizz is caused by combing, styling, blow drying.

Best of all – the Moroccan Oil Hydrating Mask. It’s pricey ($34) but I still have it and every time I use it (once every 8-10 weeks) the results are so incredible (soft shiny manageable hair) I tell myself to use it more often.

My latest question – once your hair is semi-smooth, should you shower (on non-shampoo days) with a shower cap? Looks old lady, but the shower is just adding heat and humidity (ideal climate for frizz).

Frizzy hair needs moisture.
I find even with my wavy hair, I don’t need to wash it every time I shower.
Have you tried this?

I don’t use this particular product , though I have bought it for one of my daughters. I am a big Aveda fan …nothing that I have ever bought has disappointed ( been using it at least 20 yrs )

I have curly hair. I try not to use shampoo with sulfates, usually only shampoo at all once a week. I also shower using filtered water as I find the chlorine in our tap water dries out my hair and wreaks havoc on my scalp.

As far as styling, I use a light leave-in conditioner, currently Ouidad and then climat control gel and let it air dry. If you need to dry it, only use a big diffuser.

So no great success stories with AVEDA?

Not the shampoo you mention but I do use the ‘Be Curly’ curl cream on towel dried hair. Nickel sized dollop for hair just down to my collar bones. Comb it through so it coats all the hair from root to tip. Leave to dry naturally. Ta-da!

Soccergirl, wondering if you have ringlet type curls or just wavy hair?

I LOVE Aveda products (though not shampoo). I use the Be Curly line also, conditioner and leave-in gel. Then I add some stronger gel that comes in a blue jar. I scrunch up my hair (collar length), style my bangs, and air dry. It looks like I have curly hair, soft curls and waves. And my hair is pretty straight really, not stick straight, but not curly either.

I am very allergic to scents in hair products and Aveda products don’t bother me. I read an interesting article sometime ago about the scientist who formulates their scents using natural fragrances.

Definitely curls, not waves!

Just want to add that if you have hair that is a pain in the summer - frizzy - bad with humidity, etc. - try a Brazilian Blowout at a salon. I have done both the nano keratin treatment and the BB - loved them both. A little pricey - but you get about 3 months of well-behaved hair. Very smooth and shiny. It has cut my blow dry time in half and I no longer use a flat iron. I am officially addicted.
