OK, I know this isn’t tech support, but there are a lot of computer-savvy posters here and I’ll just bet one of you can answer my question.

I just dumped Norton Antivirus and downloaded Kaspersky. I don’t know what setting I need to tweak, but it’s playing havoc with my internet browsing. I’ll click on a link or type in an address to go to a website and it just hangs – nothing happens, or the screen turns white like it’s getting ready to render the page and the hourglass just sits there. If I disable protection in Kaspersky, the page loads just fine, so I know it’s the AV program that’s doing this.

I’ve tried adjusting things under the Web Antivirus tab, and I’ve added the slow-loading sites to the Trusted Site list, but I still get this incredible slowdown. The Help files don’t address the problem, and the website support area doesn’t either. I’m about ready to go back to the hated Norton but I’d like to give this program a chance if all I need is an adjusted setting.

Try AVG instead: [AVG Free](<a href=“Free Antivirus Download for PC | AVG Virus Protection Software”>http://free.avg.com/). The free version works very well.

No, stick with Kas. It’s the best anti-virus software out there… kinda relatively unknown mainstream. I suggest reinstalling it or dling a more secure version of it (an older version… not that many differences).

I did try AVG Free first, actually, but I found the interface kind of strange and not much support available. Then I read that Kaspersky was the best so I bought it, not realizing I could download a trial version. I sure wish I had because I found out that it conflicts with ZoneAlarm Free. I’ve temporarily uninstalled ZoneAlarm so that I can try out Kaspersky but I’m not happy with this slowdown. Maybe a reinstall will work.Or maybe I should switch my browser from IE7 to Firefox.

I think Avast is excellent (and free for non-commercial use): [avast! antivirus - high security and protection from malware with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in](http://www.avast.com/)
