Anyone with hardwood in their kitchen?

We are building a house and are considering hardwood throughout. How does it do in the kitchen? We’ll do ceramic tile in the bathrooms, so I’m not concerned about those areas.

Our house is 13 years old. We have hardwood in the kitchen. Love it.

We’ve lived in this house for 30 years- hardwood throughout and have only refinished the hardwood in the kitchen once 15 years ago. These days I use only Bona to clean the floors and boy do my Oak wood floors shine!

We originally had tile in the kitchen and changed to hardwood so it would match the rest of the house.

We hated the tile floor. It was cold, slippery when wet, the grout was a pain, and anything breakable would shatter into a million pieces when accidentally dropped.

We love the hardwood floor.

Maple hardwood floors in the kitchen, Swedish finish. I also use Bona and have a mat by the sink. The wood still looks great after 12 years, and I like to walk on it barefoot.

LOVE LOVE my hardwood floors in my kitchen. Have had them for 14 years or so. No issues!

We did a complete kitchen remodel including hardwood floor through the kitchen. It still looks good despite the wear and tear of real use and a large German Shepherd who loves to play tag around the island.

Had hardwood floors in my last kitchen remodel and loved it! I use Minwax wood floor cleaner and highly recommend it. The only downside to hardwood in a kitchen is if any of your plumbing, such as ice maker line, water filter in fridge, dishwasher, sinks, etc., ever leaks and warps your wood floors.

Our kitchen is half ceramic tile, half hardwood. I wish it were all hardwood, as tile is SO bad for my back. If I ever redo it, I’ll probably do cork floors, though. They are so comfy to stand on…

Hardwood here too. This is my second house with hardwood in the kitchen. Mine is a clear ploy finish…we are getting the floors refinished this year for the first time…18 years. To be honest, we probably could wait.

Our whole downstairs except for the entry hall, bath and mudroom are, hardwood…it really looks nice having the same flooring throughout!

The house we had for 18 years, we had hardwood floor through out. Didn’t have any problem with hardwood in the kitchen. We used vinegar, tea and water (H’s special formula) to clean the floor.

I want that secret formula Oldfort!

The tradition in our area is maple for the kitchen and upstairs, oak for the downstairs. I sort of wonder why no oak in the kitchen, as maple turns black after exposure to water. My fridge had a water problem for a while, and I have one black spot under a counter to deal with at some point. After many years, need to refinish, as we originally had Swedish finish, and it is wearing a little thin. I wash with Murphy’s oil soap. It does require a little prompting of houseguests/kids friends, no water standing on wood, wipe up messes immediately.

I used to use Murphys, but Bona makes the floor shine like its just been refinished! no more Murphys for me.

We have hardwood as well. Had one issue with fridge water line several years ago. It did warp the wood. Insurance agent said to leave it alone and it would probably go back which it did. (I was not interested in re-finishing at that time and you can’t just do a small section!). Have loved the hardwood.
I, too, am interested in the cleaning process, oldfort. Please share the formula!

We also love our maple hardwood flooring in the kitchen. We’ve had it for over three years now. Does much better than the old vinyl flooring - ychh.

I hadn’t heard of Bona before, so I will try it.

Hardwood (engineered) here, too. Bona to clean. Cat fur rolls around, but love it otherwise.

I replaced all the tile with maple engineered wood. Given Bona by flooring company owner. Before I move, will need to refinish one spot by d/w. the look is so much warmer than tile

Oh, I have rugs by stove and sink.

Oak in the kitchen. Brazilian cherry in the kitchen in the previous house. Oak in the house before that. I like the oak a lot, but if I didn’t have dogs, I’d have cork.

We have hardwood, also. I absolutely love it and after 13 years, it still looks great.
