Perhaps someone on CC knows/is an FBI agent or staff member? I was just wondering whether the job is enjoyable for you how long your application process was, and what you majored and possibly worked as prior to!
I am currently deciding on a major and know they take people from several majors such as CJ and accounting. Would love tips for what jobs/internships to take up during college to help improve my app. Thank you for your time!
Depends upon what you are looking for in terms of an FBI position. Most investigations involve white collar crime, though my friend who is an agent still has to carry a gun when they arrest on white collar charges (and have martial arts/self-defense training).
Yes, accounting, anything business and management related. If you are looking more for active agent work involving capital crimes, suggest criminal justice coursework at least.
It really depends on what kind of FBI job you are looking for, look at fbijobs.gov to find what they are looking for now, and which type of job interest you have. Like many large companies, there are a lot of people doing a lot of things.
The CIA and other federal agencies recruit at college campuses as well. They like engineers and lots of different majors. If you major in something you enjoy that you can have a career in even if things don’t work out with the federal government is a good strategy.
Some of the federal agenncies pay a premium if you have fluency in a foreign language. Some will offer internships so you can have a taste of the field and some may offer scholarships and help with your student debt in exchanage for your working for them for a certain # of years.
