Hey so I am attending a private school in Vancouver, Canada and I am going into grade 11.
My course load will be 7 APs, 1 Pre-AP and 1 ‘chill block’ and I am not sure how I can handle this course load.
My blocks include:
AP Physics B
AP English Language
AP Calculus
AP Psychology
AP Economics (Micro and Macro)
AP Art History
French 11 Pre-AP
Digital Photo 11

Any advice on how to handle it or if you have already taken the course: how was it?
I am a straight A honor student with a 95% average and I have never taken any ‘real APs’ yet… just pre APs (real AP material but split into 2 years)

Art History is learning about art pieces and how religion, the culture, etc. is intertwined with the piece, different architectural aspects, and so forth. I haven’t taken the exam since the course was cut halfway in due to lack of funding, but it’s just a regular history class with memorization.

English Language is also pretty straightforward, it’s just a standardized test with passages/multiple choice and 3 essays. The only thing distinct is that you learn about rhetorical strategies and terms (allegory, metaphor, ad hominem, logos, pathos, ethos, etc.) that if you memorize you should have no problem at all. If you don’t have garbage reading comprehension like I do, you shouldn’t have a problem with it.

Calculus is just a math class with an exam at the end of the year. I felt it was a little difficult to understand the concepts at some points since we went through the material relatively quickly, but it really isn’t that bad if you have a solid understanding of mathematics and trigonometry. the unit circle and trig identities are the only legitimate pre-requisites I think is really required for calculus other than basic geometry and algebra. Just ask your teachers a lot of questions if you don’t understand anything, go to him at lunch, etc. You should be fine.

I haven’t taken any of the other APs, if not yet, so can’t help you with the rest.

Hope this helped!

Calc- AB or BC? I took AB this year, and it was very easy. I am good at math and never really have studied for math tests in my entire life, and only studied a little this year for tests. Homework only took about 30 minutes or so a day, and a little more around AP test time. I thought the AP test was easy and should have a 4 or 5. Get Barron’s for the AP prep book- the questions/exams are harder than the actual AP test, so it makes the real test very easy.
