AP Bio: how do I self-study?

My teacher’s way of teaching the material doesn’t click with me. I stayed after class to talk about my failed quizzes (of which there are plenty), I’ve even started getting help from my dad about these topics, but every quiz and every test I see 50s and 60s. The only reason I haven’t dropped yet is because the lab grades are keeping me afloat. How do I self study for the AP exam at this point?

-Read your textbook. Cannot stress this enough! Biology is a lot of reading and rereading. Read the book out loud to yourself. Take detailed notes.Make quizlets. Read it one paragraph at a time.Try to summarize each paragraph after you read it, to make sure you understand. Go over your notes or quizlets every day.
-Watch videos on YouTube. Crash course, Bozemen Science, Science with Mr. J are all super helpful. There are a TON of resources online!

AP Biology isn’t too bad conceptually but you have to put in the time and effort. It’s a lot of reading and a lot of memorizing! What topics are you currently struggling with? I can help point you in the right direction.

@sciencenerd123 We’re going into DNA and RNA. Just got done with a DNA replication + history quiz yesterday.

OK when I was learning about DNA replication I watched a lot of animations and this was my absolute favorite one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDkSWd_ZbbE

I watched it a million times. It’s SO helpful.

^They have videos on basically everything. They shouldn’t be the only videos you watch, but they provide a very good overview.

Here is the link to Bozeman Science’s AP Biology playlist. An AP Biology staple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6La6_kIr9g&list=PLFCE4D99C4124A27A

Since you just finished DNA replication, I am assuming you are going into protein synthesis (transcription + translation). Here is a great animation that explains that super well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BwWavExcFI

Good luck! You can do it!
