Hello, I’m Austin. I’m currently enrolled in AP Biology for my sophomore year of high school, which is this year. But, I do not know if I’ll be able to participate in it since I currently do not have the funds to do so. Let me explain.
My school gives me a budget of $800 for the school year to put towards school supplies, equipment, and technology, such as a laptop. Now, I’ve been planning on doing AP Biology since 8th grade, but I’ve run into a roadblock. My school charged me $480 for my mobile hotspot and $250 for my laptop. While also charging me $100 for my curriculum. Now, I only have enough to purchase the textbooks for my two AP classes; AP Biology and AP U.S Government and Politics.
Now, my question is; are there any scholarships or financial need based loans or funding for students who don’t have the money for equipment? As most of you know, AP Biology requires a myriad of lab materials, such as a microscope. Now, I did find a kit that includes everything needed for my class (which I’ll include right here - http://www.qualitysciencelabs.com/apex-learning-biology/advanced-biology-kit-advanced-placement-level-biology-kit-for-apex-learning/) and I also found the microscope needed for the course.
Should I create a gofundme or Kickstarter or something similar? And, no. My school does not have a lab seeing that I’m enrolled in a virtual charter school. I start school on September 5th, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to do my desired classes.
