How useful is it to use ap books to single out important concepts in college? I am taking intro chem and was thinking about getting one ap book as a study aid since there are so many reference and diagrams in the regular text. Can anyone recommend a company?

A CLEP book might be a better idea since they’re actually meant to represent a college course, but honestly, you may not really need one if you’re reading your textbook and going to class. REA is often the best w/ their CLEP study guides.

frasifrasi: I have used my AP Chem book for by chem courses. Textbooks can sometimes be confusing and the AP prep books are meant to give you a quick snapshot of the important material. If you want to BUY a study guide, I recommend the Schaum’s guide to College Chemistry. It is much better than any AP prep book.

I’ve definitely used my AP books to help study for my other classes–they don’t usually go as much in-depth as your course will, but they’re helpful for summarizing important concepts. My AP chem book wasn’t as helpful to me as other AP books, though–statistics and economics were the most useful–but it can’t hurt to have it as a reference.
