AP Calc AB question

i have around an A/A+ in honors precalc, and have been in honors math courses throughout high school, with As (for the most part) in them. however, i really do not enjoy math that much, and am planning on majoring in english/history/humanities. i am wondering, however, that if I don’t take AP Calc AB next year, colleges will think that i am slacking given my previous courses and grades. any suggestions/comments? thanks.

If u are taking a challenging class in place of calc, they shouldn’t have a problem with it. Especially if you state your intended major on an application, you should be fine.

Well, if since your clearly good at math, you may want to go on and take it, since if you do well enough on the AP test, you won’t have to take it in college and can focus on classes you like.

Eh, take Calc if it doesn’t conflict with a humanities class that is just as difficult and that you’re dying to take. The subjects covered in AB Calc are more interesting than anything, and it’ll look better on an application to be well-rounded. I’m pretty much of the opinion that every student should have some calc, because it’s where mathematics really begins to get very interesting and USEFUL. You’ll find that calc methods can be very effective in social science classes, as well.

how is calculus useful if your not going to major in math or become a mathematician??

physics, engineering, economics, stats, etc

there might also be some GEs (depending on the college you attend) where you can use a high score on the ap exam to get out of a math class you might not want to take

I was in your situation last year. I don’t like math, and I don’t plan to major in it, but I opted to take AP Calc AB. It wasn’t so bad, and compared to AP Lit or AP histories, there is a lot less work involved–no essays, papers, etc. I figured that being well-rounded in high school courses would cover up some other deficiency in my apps, and it worked out for me. Good luck.

well, actually you might want to take ap calc ab since your not majoring in math, thats one less course to take in college since you’ll probably get a 5. but if taking ap calc means you wont have space for the aps you want to take, then by all means forgo ap calc. ap calc is really not that hard, and personally i thought precalc/trig was harder.
