AP Calc vs AP Stats

I’m taking AP stats this coming year.
I took AP calc last year and aced the class and the test, A’s and 5’s.

How does stats compare to calc in general? Math-wise? Type of material?

Thanks. any info is helpful.

They have nothing to do with each other, to be quite honest with you. It’s a completely different type of math.

Like Soulside Journey said, they aren’t even close to being comparable. Statistics is a much more qualitative subject than calculus, so knowing your way around equations doesn’t mean anything in terms of success in stats like it does in calc. In turn, the stats exam is graded a lot more leniently for FRQ.

i took them both this year (i’m assuming you’re referring to calc AB)

honestly, i thought they were equally easy. one huge plus to stat though is that there is literally NO formula memorization- you get a formula sheet! i have absolutely no idea what their justification is for giving you one for stat but not calc, since i you have to memorize a ridiculous amount of equations for the latter…

stat is more reading/writing oriented. thats not to say you have to be good at english or anything but there’s a lot of critical thinking type stuff. while the root of calc is more about choosing which formula to use, stat is more about finding the proper angle from which to solve a problem.

AP Stat is mostly memorization and using precise terminology. good
math folks may possibly do badly in this if not taken seriously.

AP Calc on the other hand is fun and you can run with it based
on your understanding.

At the end of the year in every statistics class, there are two types of people: those who understand statistics and those who have memorized their statistical tests (but have not a clue why they work). Doing well in calculus does not guarantee you’ll do well in statistics. Remember, correlation does not imply causation.
