AP Calculus 1A & 1B

This is frowned upon at my school, because it’s considered as the “Merit” AP Calculus AB/BC. Before I begin, let me explain how my school does things. We have a academic system consisting of, Honors (Above grade level), Merit (On grade level), and Directed (Below grade level). In my school, AP Calculus is a year long class: AB and BC and then the students choose which AP exam to take AB, BC or both. AP Calculus 1A/1B, is the course where the teachers prepare the students for the AB exam only. This is frowned upon because other students think that AP Calculus 1A/1B students can’t handle or not smart enough for AP Calculus AB/BC.

I’m taking AP Calculus 1A/1B as a senior after Pre-Calculus this year. I think this is perfect for me because I know that it won’t be as fast paced as AB/BC.

What do you think of this class?

Sounds good to me. We only had AB, and it was almost too fast after the slow pace of previous classes. I’d only say don’t take it if your teacher doesn’t know what they’re doing, like our non-AP teacher, or if you find it too slow and can still move up to the AB/BC class.

Nothing wrong with taking AP Calculus AB if you’re a senior. So if you don’t feel you’ll be able to keep up with BC than just go with AB. Most kids in HS don’t even take a calculus course at all, so even taking AB is still pretty impressive.
