AP Chemistry - ICE tables

i know how to make an ice table, but i never had to use them in my ap chem class. we just immediately jumped to plugging the values into the equilibrium equation since we could just do the ice table in our heads. i noticed that in the frq answer keys, they always award 1 point for the correct setup…
does this mean that i have to make the ice table even if i plug in all the correct values to get that point? if it’s necessary, i’ll just make one but it would be nice to save that time

They don’t know what’s going on in your head, so when you write out the ICE chart they will know where you were going with your answer. If all of a sudden magic appears on your paper with no ICE chart written down, they can’t be sure if you really know what you are doing or just memorized the final equation. Just make the ICE chart and be as thorough as possible, it won’t take up that much time. I’m sure a lot of the people taking the test could do it mentally very easily, but if you don’t write it down you aren’t showing them that you know how to use it.
