I’m currently in 8th grade, and the second semester has just started, and we just signed up for our high school classes. i got into the most rigorous classes available to a freshman, all except one AP class, the only AP class available to a freshman. This is a problem. I wanted to go into this class, but my teacher signed me up for a Pre-AP class because she said my work habits weren’t good enough. I had a 92 average in first semester, but she said only students with averages of 95 and higher were recommended for this class. I have made an A in social studies in school every year of my life. How do i convince my school that i am capable of taking this class?
You likely don’t. Work habits and how it translates into success in AP classes is a big deal. Having an AP freshman year or not will have no real impact on your future. This board is littered with students that went too fast and are now paying the price in their grades. Go thank your teacher for not giving you too much rope.
I agree with Eeyore. An AP class as a freshman with really a small amount of background in rigor is tough. Take many honors classes and pre APs, so by the time you are in soph and junior year you can handle it.
Remember that it’s not the number of Ap’s that matters to elite colleges, but which ones you picked. They don’t expect more than 6-8 total, so you’ve got plenty of time
And, yes, a 92 in middle school doesn’t indicate ability to take an AP class, even AP Human Geo would need a 95+, and I wouldn’t let a freshman take another AP than that one unless they had a clear 100% in MS.
