What is the deal with ap classes? From talking and listening to numerous adcoms it sounds like they are not weighed as heavily when taking multiple ap classes. However, many posters on cc take solely an ap based schedule. One adcom at a highly selective university said “if aps are truly demanding it should not be possible to take five classes over such a short period”. Also, others stressed that the teachers are generally poorly prepared and stress rote memorization , which I have experienced. Also, if the ap classes are truly “challenging”, then wouldn’t a student have no time for ecs due to all of the work. So by taking an all ap schedule , would that show the adcoms that infact your classes are not that hard or challenging and thus the student would be better off taking a few ap classes a year?

No. The rigor of APs is well known among colleges. If they really thought “wouldn’t a student have no time for ecs due to all of the work” then there would not be any clubs in college because noone would have time for them there either.
