AP Credit -> Requirements?

If I accept AP credit for a class, let’s say European History and US History, does that fulfill any areas of knowledge or modes of inquiry requirements or will I still have to take additional history classes to satisfy these requirements.

albedo, guess what, I was just searching for this particular thing on the web…the website tells that one must have 4 or 5 to get the credit…isn’t there any detailed sheet which tells how much one should get to get how much credit? particularly for APEUro, what should be the score be to get the minimum grade: 4 or 5?

It doesn’t matter which one you get (either 4 or 5). They will give you the same credit.

I don’t think AP credits fulfill any of that AoK or MoI requirements even if used towards a degree. But I could be wrong.

They don’t. They just count towards the 34 credits you need to graduate.

Darn. Meaning I’ll still have to take history classes.

Not necessarily… I don’t think history classes are a part of the requirements. There are courses in other departments that fulfill the same requirements that history courses fulfill.

At the same time, some of the history classes offered have really interesting topics… you might find yourself wanting to take one!

so does that mean a great majority of us will be starting off @ duke with 2 credits towards graduation given that most of us have 4’s and 5’s

Yeah.

And if you don’t, it’s not a big deal. You can overload a semester or two, or take courses in the summer. Personally, I had AP credit, took courses over the summer, overloaded the past two semesters (… which I found out was not a good idea while taking orgo), and will be spending the second half of this summer in australia taking two more classes.

In all honesty, aside from your freshman requirements, the requirements are not something you need to worry about. In taking courses for your major, you will inevitably cover virtually all of the requirements (except for foreign language… unless you’re a foreign language major/minor). Don’t force yourself to take classes you don’t want to take just because it fulfills a requirement, because odds are that you’ll come across a class later that you need/want to take that also fulfills that requirement.
