D2 is starting full time in the Fall but is taking a couple of classes at University Park this Summer. When Fall tuition bills came out a couple of weeks ago there was an extra tuition charge from Summer on her Fall bill. Called the bursars office to find out what this extra charge was and the nice lady explained to me that D2 just became a junior so she is now paying upper level tuition and oh by the way we made it retroactive to Summer session. I tried to explain that D2 was a freshmen when the Summer session started but the AP credits bumped her up to junior status when they showed up a couple of weeks ago. Her response: “sorry nothing I can do, you could talk to the university fee assessor”. Long story short, I did talk to the fee assessor and he agreed they should not have charged the increased tuition retroactively (he removed the charge) but D2 would be paying upper level tuition starting Fall semester.

So if anyone else got hit with a retroactive tuition increase because of AP credits, I suggest you take the issue to a higher level in the bursars office where they have the authority to make an intelligent decision.
