AP English Lang Argumentative Essay Questions

Do you have to use Rogerian Argument in the Argumentative Essay? My teacher just mentioned that we ‘needed’ this for the AP exam, but my review books don’t say anything about it. It is a lot to memorize and I would prefer to stick to what I have practice with - normal persuasive/argumentative essays.

Is it acceptable to use first person singular on the argumentative essay? My review books say yes, but my teacher says it undermines the argument.
Thanks.

Never heard of it –> don’t use it.

It undermines the argument because you are presenting the argument as your own opinion. You want to present it as fact. I usually avoid it but my review book said first person will help you out because it personalizes the essay. I’m not sure of the validity of that.

Thanks skateme.

I agree with Skateme.

Don’t use first person unless you’re using a personal anecdote.

Thanks for the help! Rogerian is out (thankfully) and so is first person.
