***AP English Lang & Comp HELP***

I am trying to prep for Eng Lang & Comp before my school starts an actual class next year.

Can some expert please enumerate the good resources I can refer to in my prep?

(Also, do your recommend me REA's AP Lang & Comp?)

And where can I find released AP exams? Are the released exams for free or do I have to buy them off the collegeboard website?

Thanks in advance :) help a poor teen :(

Jenny, there's really no prep you can do for AP lang & comp.

The only concern i have is that you speak english as a second language? <-- ?

Have you taken the ACT (english/reading) or an ACT practice before? if its <20 you are kinda in trouble :|

AP lang & comp is all about the subtleties (i can use big words too :D) of the english language.

oh and vocab too D: (first 5 weeks worth anyway)

Just read and read and read what you enjoy to read. READ! D:

If you think that reading about the occupy wall street movement or reading about the tea party is SOOO boring... this probably isn't the class for you.

Oh, and as for a reference i use crash course just a little book to carry around to help with writing essays and vocab.

oo thanx div301 ! :) Yes, I am an English-as-a-second-language student.
About ACT.. hum.. I never took it and I probably would never take it;
but I got 2400 on SAT.. Do you think that might help in gauging my success for AP Lang?

Well. Your vocab list is impressive and I thank you for your effort in typing all this !!
The enthusiasm CCers have in helping others with resources is contagious :D

I am not sure about four of your words, but that doesn't mean that my English skill is immaculate..
I'm just an international student, and I guess you can fathom the limits of one.

Thank you again, div301! :)

lol it wasn't much just copying and pasting from where my teacher posts homework lol.

2400 Sat... you don't know 4 of the words... facepalm you're gonna be FINE ... we have kids who get 10/25 right on vocab quizzes...

To be honest there are kids in my class who make esl errors like (this is what i feel when i hear esl)

"There are many pro and con in having corporate sponsorship in school." <-- first sentence of our first practice essay in class from some kid. >.<

This... is OBVIOUSLY not going to be a problem. (sorry lmao)

If APEL in your school is anything like mine... its kinda a blowoff class to be honest just because we (you more so than me) have the background for it.

I work harder in choir to get my notes right lol.

But its all about if you want to take it.

:) thnx div301

does anyone else know some good books & resources I can refer to????

Hey, I wouldn't call myself an expert (lol) but I did get a 5 on the exam last year. I think that you should get the Princeton Review (Cracking) because it tells you all of the literary terms that are necessary. However, you don't need to go crazy reading it, I only read it the night before the test. I best prep is reading, however I think historical texts are the best. You should read The Bible (I'm atheist, it's just a great piece to practice), The Qu'ran and other religious texts (buddhist, etc.). Also the Marx's Communist Manifesto, some Rousseau, and Machiavelli's The Prince. It's great practice and if you just read excerpts it should be too much of a problem. If you want to read narratives go along the lines of The Great Gatsby, Ernest Hemingway... stuff from The Lost Generation is best. Best of luck!!

so sorry to get back to you so late :D

thank you so much haaayanna

great help!! and congrats on your mega 5!
