AP English Lang

What is the course like for next year?
Most important skills needed?
Whats the AP test like?
Types/Amount of reading?

Well our class is basically the same difficulty as a regular English class, except he taught us some about the AP test, mostly we just read his favorite short stories and essays, which I don’t think has prepared me well.

Essentially, you’re going to be studying a lot of rhetoric and other types of prose. If you want to do good in the class, you’ll probably want to be decent at analyzing written works and having good writing skills. The AP test consists of a multiple choice section, specifically 54 questions in one hour or something to that degree, and three essays that must be written in two hours. The AP exam is designed so that the essays contribute to the majority of your score, though people scoring 5s usually get around 80% of the multiple choice correct.

Hope that answers your question.

AP test MC is mostly literary terms and a bit of critical-reading-esque. Studying for this is pretty easy. The essays, well, you basically have to be a good writer. No outside knowledge (besides terms and stuff) is really needed (you don’t actually need to be familiar with any literature). Just have good reading and writing skills, study the terms a bit, and the AP test is a breeze. The class really varies from school to school. Some teachers give tons of work, some hardly any. Same goes for reading. I guess, if you consider yourself “good at English,” then you will do fine. If not, just hope for the best.
