AP English Language Question

Hi for the AP English Language and Composition exam, are all 3 writing prompts weighted the same? And is there a certain length that the essays need to be (or are there certain terms we have to use) to get a high score (8/9)? Also, do we have to use all the Sources to get an 8/9? Thanks.

Yes, they are all weighted the same.

There is no set length requirement for high scores, but generally you can get a higher score if you write more.

You need to use at least 3 sources, not many more.

Ok thank you.

My english teacher tells us that it should be at least 3 pages each.

^ That’s a good goal… but it’s not very realistic. 3 shallow pages are worse than 2 solid pages. Quality, not quantity.

Is it better to have a title?

I consistently get 8s on my essays and I only write one page (front and back) on notebook paper.

@richard - titles don’t matter. It seems tacky anyway.

I make 7s on most of my essays and write about a page and a half on notebook paper (front and half of the back), though my synthesis essays are usually two pages or more. Length doesn’t matter nearly as much as the quality of analysis, argumentation or synthesis in your essay.
