AP English Literature: Which skill is more important: CR or Writing?

I am a junior with and I’m trying to take AP English Lit next year. My school has a strict AP policy where one can only take an AP if they are recommended by their teacher and have to get approval from the head of the department and have to have a 90 in that class. I took the SAT this past May and got a 730 CR and a 610 on writing, with a 10 on the essay. My PSAT scores were 680CR and 570W. Many of my teachers have said that I write well. My main concern is that my current English teacher hates me. She is a horrible teacher and isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. I cannot stand her and hate her with a passion. Unfortunately, she teaches honors English for seniors, so its not like I can even take that because she hates me. Anyway, girls that have a 510 CR and like a 530W are getting put into honors, whereas people like me, have to stay in regular. She plays favorites, and completely BS grades. I even have proof, my friend Rosemary copied a friend’s HW word for word, she handed it in, and got a 75 while the other girl got a 90! Anyway, I don’t have a 90 in the class, I have an 85. In her class, she doesn’t give tests, we don’t read any books, its horrible. My guidance counselor was wondering why my English grade was low, considering I did well on my SATs and had a 96 in APUSH, which requires strong writing skills. Anyway, I really want to take AP English Literature, because I love reading and like being challenged. What should I do?

Tell your guidence person that you are going to show him that she grades unfairly. Copy the same girls homework (with guidence permission), show him the unequal grades, and bam, problem solved.

Um…did you consider that perhaps the teacher detected the cheating and thus allotted the grades that way on purpose?

I doubt it because then she would have reported it. She’s really anti-cheating.

Bump!!! I really need advice!

Try and get you guidance counselor to come to some agreement with you. For instance, when people want to take a class that they weren’t recommended for at my school, they are required to sign something saying that they will not drop the class. Screw the English department, they don’t make the schedules (at least I hope not). Just get your guidance counselor to put you in the class.
