AP Exams: Get a 3, earn $100

[Grant lets all Dallas ISD high schoolers earn $100 per AP test passed | Dallas-Fort Worth Education News - News for Dallas, Texas - The Dallas Morning News](http://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/headlines/20100920-Grant-lets-all-Dallas-ISD-high-6573.ece)

Not exactly recent, but interesting.

I’m searching the web for the actual documentation, but I know that studies from top universities have suggested that giving a monetary incentive to any cognitive task actually decreases performance.

The article shows that AP scores have decreased since the policy has been initiated. “Experts” blame the low scores on the influx of test takers, but even with the influx of possibly under-qualified students, you would expect that $100 incentive to increase the average grade. However, it has lowered it.

Interesting idea though. I wouldn’t mind a $1200 payout right now.

=O Please please let this program come to florida.

I think it lowered the average grade because it causes more people to take it rather than study harder.

Yes, that would be the logical answer. People who really don’t care about the class or aren’t AP caliber students take the AP class/exam anyways.

However, logic also states that given this monetary incentive, students will study harder. But, either they didn’t, or they tried and failed.

I mean these studies explicitly state that increasing monetary incentive decreases performance. Maybe this is proof.

wow that’s awesome
mine is more like: get a 5, pay $87
lol
