Does anybody know if “dont” and “duquel” can be used interchangeably on a grammar fill-in question?

For example, “J’ai vu la robe _____ tu as envie au centre commercial hier.” “Dont” and “duquel” mean the same thing (and would both work in this question–I think), but will one not be accepted as a correct answer?

NO! You would definitely use dont. All of the answer keys the AP readers have say dont. Duquel is only used when referring to a place. “C’est l’arbre duquel je viens.” In this case duquel means “from which” whereas in your example dont would mean “of which”. It’s a subtle difference, but it distinguishes you as a more fluent speaker.
