AP Human Geography 2010 Prep

Wait, you can delete posts on CC?
Wasn’t aware of that!

I generally agree with those that said the MC was a tad difficult and the FRQs were easy. I mean, I don’t think the MC was hard per se, but a lot the Barron’s users probably underestimated the test because the Barron’s MC is a joke. I blame CCers for telling me that I could use Barron’s and nothing else and still get a 5, haha. I was really bad on the MC asking for specific examples of places that follow certain trends, models, etc. I could still get a 5 if a lot of the MC swing my way, because I didn’t leave any blank. (I’m really bad at smart-omitting)

^^ yeah you can c^^

@ sd 6: Yes, that’s what I exactly thought!
And now…I regret it. I could’ve done better…
I have no formal class, only self-studying…

how many did you guys omit on mc

Yeah, I only used Barron’s. Don’t you think the thing that Barron’s didn’t really cover are actual geographic facts per say; I mean they gave you maps of religious distributions (speaking of which were blurry) but more so ONLY focused on the concepts. A good 30% of the test was applying and I don’t think Barron’s did a good job on helping you apply those concepts.

Man, I completely BSed the 2nd FRQ lol.

gosoccer2006, I could not agree more. Barron’s is not a good sole source for the test. It was for Psych though.

I thought the test was fairly easy. I used just Barrons to prepare and I thought it sufficed. I wouldn’t recommend just using Barrons though, I would supplement it with PR. I have a good grasp of geography, history, and current events, and I think that helped me. The MC was fair. Most of the MC were easy to medium, a couple were fairly difficult, but manageable. I think I left one blank and made an educated guess on ~7. I’m hoping for at least 55+ on the MC. The FRQ’s were very easy, I think I got most of the points. I didn’t write much, but I think I wrote enough to answer the question completely.

Does anyone have instant messanger that wants to talk? Not about the exam questions, of course. :PP

Let’s see I skipped about 10?
Probably got 15-20 wrong. Let’s use 20 for worst case scenario
So 75 - 20 - 10 = 45 - 5 = 40 * .8 = 32
FRQ - worst case would be a D. 60 * .6 = 36
36 + 32 = 68 which is a 4 :frowning: I was aiming for a 5!
Unless I get real lucky so that my educational guesses are miracles, then I could make the cut off for a 5.
On the FRQ ~ let’s just say I misplaced an example of another concept on the 1st question! For the last 30 secs, I realized that … but it was too late to fix.
If I could’ve realize it sooner, then the lowest I could get for FRQ would be a middle C.

@ gosoccer2006: I completely agreed with you. For the next wave of self-studiers: read more than Barron! I mean, Barron would be great for reviewing concepts, but not good for applying those concepts to real live regions and contemporary issues.

I have to agree w/ Harambee as well. I used Barron’s as a self-study about a week before the test and it did suffice. But for the average Joe, it definitely doesn’t. The average Joe wouldn’t know how to apply those concepts.

Of course some things you should know are quite obvious if you have an interest in history, or have some background, but Barron’s is not suitable for just the average person to self-study.

The FRQs were certainly easy, but vague. I thought so at least.

lol i am in the same situation as you, cutting it close for 4 & 5

i guess all we can do is wait until july

I am practically crying here.
It’s weird. I expected ES + Psych to be extremely hard…it turns out to be polar easy! Because of that and Barron + Practice Exam’s easy questions, I totally underestimated the test! Because I self-studied, MCs that ask to apply concepts on global regions ~ I have no clue…So yeah, the one I expected to be extremely easy…turns out to be harder.
I really want a 5 though.

lol me too
i made a bet with my teacher too @_@ he does these bets and if you get a 5, he takes you out to lunch and vice versa if you lose the bet…****. i have no $ too!

I self-studied this year, reading my PR in January, and re-reading it this last week. I memorized the need-to-know models and thoroughly understood the topic covered on the 3rd FRQ. The 2nd FRQ kind of threw me off and I had to play it by ear using just previous knowledge and common sense. The MC was decent for me, especially at the end, omitted a few, but was sure about or narrowed down it to 2 for all the questions I did answer. Using Princeton Review, I feel very confident about getting a 4 maybe even a 5! After seeing all these posts complaining about Barron’s practice tests, I feel kind of lucky, as I was going to buy a Barron’s, but Borders, so I bought a PR. Lucky me!

dude truffliepuff you saved my butt today!
i looked at the stuff you posted with frq and stuff- and they were right!
you’re really amazing for taking the time to do all of that.
how did you know all that stuff/ predict it?

i texted all my friends the info-
we;re hella sure that we got fives.
ahahaha
sucks for all those people that are borderline, i mean now the national average must be pretty high!

I feel less alienated when at least some people think the MC were medium to moderately difficult (generally & for self-studiers).
I probably would dislike geography for the rest of my life if my score was not 5.
I am sorry guys, but I am just obsessed with this. I can’t wait until July! The impending doom of finding out the truth, anyone?
OK, I’ll try to not complain anymore
Next time I self-study though, I will read more than 1 prep book. (I did for ES + Psych, but for HuG, because so many people were saying how easy it was, I didn’t.)
I guess I learned my lesson to never underestimate any APs. But it’s kind of useless now because I already took the 3 easiest ones.
If I don’t have a 5, I am going to retake this next year.
So question: If I retake it next year, would this year’s score be hidden from colleges?
Or do I have to cancel the score before finding out my score…

@ choclatier: what FRQ & stuff? mind linking me?
@ UCorBust: PR was sitting next to Barron at the bookstore. I was possessed to picked Barron. Have no idea why people say Barron would help.

My (hopeful) theory: that actually, because CC is composed of “highly motivated students,” the exam was actually harder than other years. So the curve will be lower this year.
