AP Human Geography 2010 Prep

If you review the raw score reports for the essays, AP Human Geography has some of the lowest essay scores of an AP. It’s not uncommon for average scoring numbers to be 2-3 out of 12 (essays are scored on a 1-6 scale by two graders, and then curved to fit the point scale assigned to the essay, so scoring even a 2/2 of a possible 6/6 could net you half the points on an essay). That’s why the essays are not necessary that difficult; everyone does so badly across the board that a mediocre essay will put you in 5 range.

Bump!
Any APHG takers? Let’s study!

Which of the following models of urban structure depicts a commercial spine bordered by an elite residential sector extending outward from the central business district?
A/ Urban realms
B/ Concentric zone
C/ Multiple nuclei
D/ Latin American city
E/ Southeast Asian city

I don’t know about you guys but I barely finish Chapter 2. Self-studying. This question is from a practice exam. Hopefully I’ll make it to get a 5 in 3 months.

It seems nobody really likes too…

I’m going to say B. :)

Thanks for answering!!!
The answer is actually D. I do not know why. Maybe somebody does. I really need to start studying.

Haha yeah, I have no idea. I skimmed over most of the models for now. Just trying to get all the other crap in first.

Two weeks! D:

How much time do we have for the FRQs? It’s 1 hour for all three, so that’s about 20 minutes each, right? Are the graders expecting any format?

Define de-industrialization.

Would I be able to 5 this exam if I read the Barrons book the night before? I read the entire thing this past summer, but no extensive reviewing/studying/memorizing-- just read it.

The Barron’s book is so short and easy to read that most people could read the entire thing in a matter of hours. I would suggest to read it at least twice to better retain the information. And take the practice tests in it if you have time. Saving it for the night before though is a pretty dumb idea. What if you were to get sick? Emergency? Just read it next weekend instead.

Deindustrialization refers to the outflow of manufacturing and industrial businesses from an area, typically a developed country where the service industry increases in importance in comparison to manufacturing. (ex: deindustrialization of Rust Belt?)

I’m sort of worried for this test, i haven’t really been practicing the FRQ. And then there are those random multiple choice questions on random countries/statistics… does anyone know about how many correct multiple choice are needed for a 5?

lol, puggly, I have 5 exams to take the second week and HG is a self-study that my school doesn’t even offer. I might take the Wednesday to study too, since I have no Thursday exams.

plankt: according to the consolidated curves thread, a 5 is around a 54%

I’m self studying it as well… But still, I don’t think it’s a good idea to save it for the night before. You could seriously read it in a about an hour.

lol yeh, it’s obviously not a good idea, but i kind of have no choice at this point. self-studying psych too and in an even worse position -.- I read Barrons HG this summer… and I gotta say it would take me a few hours to read through and remember stuff. i was asking ppl who have taken it before if it’s possible, since app. it’s all common sense?

theplankt- I think I heard that for a 5 you should get at minimum 50/75 on the mc, but it all depends how you do on the free response.

Anyone know anything about the Princeton Review human geo book? What makes Barron’s better? Cuz I already have PR… I don’t really wanna go out and get Barron’s too.

Oh, and I’m self-studying, btw. Just started today. : /

I have Princeton Review and Barron’s… I don’t really know which one is better since I have not yet taken the exam. Both seem good though. PR should be adequate enough so I would suggest just studying out of that unless you have access to a Barron’s book.

OMG!
I am so nervous.

I know!!! I have 3!!! I’ve never been so nervous/stressed in my life!

I’m self-studying for this test and I am COMPLETELY screwed. I’m so far behind, I’m not even close to learning all of the material (I’m almost halfway done lol…)…I just took AP Gov today so glad that’s over with (pretty easy…) and APUSH Friday, AP English lang next wednesday…so, copying lemone, the only way i’ll be able to sufficiently prepare is by skipping school one or 2 days…pray to God that this exam is easy.
