I’m a rising sophomore and I’m seriously worried about next year’s AP Lang curriculum. Hehe, I’m afraid I might receive a bad grade (i.e. F) because I have no idea what is on the syllabus (seems to be different at every school), and because I’m not that “learn-ed” in the “art of writing”.

Can anyone tell me how to prepare for the essay-rigorous course over the summer AND what to expect next year?

I can’t give you a lot of advice (I took the exam but not the class), but you may get more responses in the AP prep forum.

A few things I do know about the class:
Don’t worry if you’re not “learn-ed in the art of writing” - the class is there to teach you. If everyone came in writing perfect essays, it would be boring and useless.
The basic focus of the course is the rudiments of style - syntax (sentence length and structure), diction (word choice, connotation & denotation) and tone (overall feeling of the piece) - and how authors manipulate them to create a certain effect.
You’ll probably work on how to structure arguments and how to build a “toolbox” of rhetorical devices. You might want to Google “list of rhetorical devices” to get an idea of what types of terms you’ll be working with.

I found a good AP Lang website while I was studying for the exam - I’ll post the link if I can dig it up.
