AP Microeconomics & Macroeconomics Prep

Hey,

I am self-studying AP Microeconomics & Macroeconomics, and I was wondering how accurate the prep book MCs are…

I did minimal work by just reading through 5 steps to a 5 and I was really surprised to get 59/60 on the MC questions of the practice AP Microeconomics test with just a careless mistake. Surely the real AP Microeconomics test is harder…?

I also bought Princeton Review and Barron’s. But since I found the 5 steps more reader-friendly, I haven’t touched those books yet. How do those compare in terms of accuracy to the real test?

Thanks!

Edit: Also, any ideas on the new curve for the MC now that the penalty for guessing has been removed?

The econ tests aren’t that hard at all. In fact, they have the toughest curves of all AP tests, so it shouldn’t be surprising if you score that high on your raw score. If you wanna try an actual AP test, Collegeboard has released the 1995 tests for free on AP Central:

Here are the adjusted curves for the 2005 macro/micro tests (Collegeboard calculated what the curves would be if the penalty were removed and posted them)

I found Princeton Review to be a better prep book.

used the 5 steps book for micro. got a 5.
it works

I prefer PR. Mankiw’s Principles of Economics is great if you want to go in depth.

^

I second Mankiw’s textbook for more in-depth discussion.

While Mankiw’s book does have more in-depth topics and information, it is better used as a resource if you are seriously considering economics as a field of study in the future. It goes far beyond the knowledge required in the actual AP exam.
