I want to compete for the AP Siemens Awards (for highest score on science & math higher level exams, like calc bc, comp sci ab, bio, etc), but I will have to self-study them.

I come from a science magnet school and I am on the school’s Science Olympiad team; however, my school has the highest grades on AP Computer Science exams in the whole world for a school its size (and I’m not in the class).

Do you think my school would let me, providing I show evidence of excellence in the subject/excellent reputation?

And if they didn’t, can you take AP exams elsewhere?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong… but I’m pretty sure that schools have to let you take the tests if you want to… it doesn’t matter if you’re in the class or not.

a school does not have to let you take the test there (they can claim that they won’t have room, etc) but you can take the test without taking the class.

My suggestion – come january, ask the school how you sign up for the tests you want to take self-study. make sure you pay and get a receipt (in case the “forget” at test time). If they give you a problem, go to another local school (public or private) and ask to sign up for the test. this is how homeschoolers do it – they just call up in january and sign up at a local school. make sure the school is offering the test you want to take and check the test dates for conflicts.

good luck! why can’t you take the classes at your school?
