AP test score and corresponding major

Hi, I am a high school student looking to apply to multiple ivies as an engineering major. I have good extracurriculars, and a 3.992 GPA. However, I got a 4 on my AP Calc AB exam even though I earned As both semester during school. I don’t want to blame online AP testing for my score, but it definitely had a factor in me not performing as well as I should have. Is having a 4 on AP calc going to jeopardize my chances of getting in an ivy school as an engineering major?

No

Doing well in your year-long course is what an admissions officer will look at. An AP score may affect placement (hence the name of the exam), but has very little effect on admissions.

And it’s in the past, so what difference will a Yes vs. a No answer make? Look forward, not backwards.

Fact is, considering the immense competition, and institutional needs, lots of things can impact. Your best bet is to ensure the rest of your app is strong. Then be rational about anyone’s chances at a college taking as few as roughly 1/20. Have great safeties.

A 4 on AP Calc will have no effect when it comes to your decision, even at an Ivy. It will be more about grades, extra circulars, and essays. If you don’t get in, it has nothing to do with that 4.
