AP Usefullness

I took 8 AP classes through high school (3 Junior, 5 Senior). I’ve found the classes to be pretty good, but the overall preparation for the exams has been lackluster. For example, I had a 99 in my US History Class (which was a difficult class), but the material that we concentrated on unfortunately missed a lot of info for the AP test. I got a 3. Classes like BC Calc and Chem were a different story, but they were the only very preparatory classes. We were prepared very well for the molecular portion of the AP Biology test, but didn’t even touch Ecology.

Personally, I’ve found actually taking AP tests has not served me well at all. I was accepted at UPenn, and they are stingy with credit. I backed out of two of the four tests I was going to take this year because I can only get credit for 5’s (which was unlikely for many given the above) and for US Government, for example, I couldn’t get credit at all.

Has anyone else had a similar situation?
