Hello,
this question might be a bit long, but I’ll shorten it as much as possible:
I’m currently a sophomore in high school and I’m taking earth science. Here’s the thing: I really wanna go to college for biology; animal science/pre-vet. I heard that out of chemistry, physics, and earth science, the second latter is the least important. So, I really wanna take AP bio. I was talking to the college counselor at my school and she said not to take it because I would have to take chemistry and physics in my final two years of high school. At least at my school you can’t take more than one year long science course, and AP bio and chemistry/physics are both just that. She said it’s not a good idea to go to college without knowing high school chemistry/physics–but then I can’t take AP bio. Advice please!!
sorry for this long message
I’ll probably choose not to take it; but yeah…
If you’re going into the bio field, take chem or physics in HS so you can take bio (the class you like) in college.
Your guidance counselor is right. In college you usually take physics, chemistry, as well as biology to fulfill pre-med or pre-vet requirements that will get you into good vet schools.
Why don’t you take AP chem or physics one year and AP bio another year? As a sophomore I would think you already took either high school bio already or high school chem. If you already took high school bio it’s better to focus on being well rounded in the sciences and taking physics and chemistry your next two years. It’s obviously better if they’re AP. I know on CC they sometimes make AP classes sound easy, but for the majority of high school students they’re exceedingly difficult and I have no idea where you stand academically.
Yeah I just dislike how I chose–more like was put into–earth science
If I was put in Chem/Phys. for this year I could’ve done chem/phys. junior year and AP bio senior year. oh well
and lol yeah; I wouldn’t want to go to college and take chem.phys. w/ out knowing even h.s. level chem.physics!
Thanks!
