Okay this may sound really dumb but please bare with me.

Would taking AP tests that you know you would score high on be better than going to isef and having a chance to do good or vise versa?

Reason why I ask is because isef this year takes place during the second week on AP exams and I wanted to take some that are given out that week but I also kinda want to do isef

PS If it matters I’m in the 10th grade

BUMP! Please answer this!

Isef is ALWAYS during AP test season. You have the option to take the AP tests there or take them at alternate testing times.

Like what do you mean take them there? Like at the actual isef site or at a school near the site?

my best friend went to isef and took second place, came back and took late AP’s and made all 5’s. do that.

If you make it to ISEF they give you the choice of literally taking the tests on the normal day of testing in a nearby testing area. Last year it was in a nearby hotel. But it’s not always an attractive option; you might have to take it at 5 AM or some ungodly hour.

My school isn’t all the “happy” about people taking extra APs epically late testing so yeah I don’t know if that will work out…

WHAT?! That early?! Anyway do you know how many AP tests they let you take?

How many? Um as many as you want? All the tests that are given at schools are given there, my friend had to take a test 5AM on the day b4 judging day, so I reccomend trying to do late testing. Last year I did late testing and got 5’s on those tests. It’s really hard to take tests in that atmosphere; there’s always something to do or see and by the end of the day you’re dead tired.

Attending ISEF is a valid reason that will qualify you to take the APs on an alternative date, or you can choose to take exams near the fair if you like. But before all of that though, you need to qualify for ISEF first. You can worry about all of this after you do get in.

^ well the reason why I asked this is because I want to know what looks better on my Application so I know which one I should work on this year

If you’re smart enough for ISEF, I’d assume you should be able to work on both…

Well intelligence isn’t the problem its time I’m petty sure I won’t have enough time for both

What APs will you be taking during that time?

Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Human Geography

Ok if you know the material for them…don’t worry about taking them there. Human geo is EASY. Micro and macro are managable if you know what you’re doing. You might want to take human geo there and take late testing for micro/macro. If I get to isef again this year I will take Bio there and just take human geo/Lang late.

Thats the thing I don’t know the material and probably won’t have time to learn it if I do isef so yeah. I might just wait until next year to try to get into isef

You’re self studying then? Or you’re teachers aren’t helpful? Because seriously you can do it! I did an ISEF project last year with 4 APs…it’s not impossible, just a lot of work.

Yeah I’m self studying all three of those. Thanks for the encouragement!!!
Now I just have to start (the hardest part for me…)

I self studied 2 last yr. I think you should pick ISEF over AP…seriously it’s a better investment. Maybe you can just self study human geo? Research is just more satisfying and interesting…

Well AP tests are part of my backup plan if I don’t get into an ivy league school it was still good money spent because I will get college credit
