AP World History before or after IB History (I and II)

<p>Our school focuses on the European aspect of History for IB History.</p>

<p>So when is a good time to self study for World History?</p>

<p>The History classes I’ll be taking in the following years are as follows.</p>

<p>Sophomore Year - AP US History</p>

<p>Junior Year - IB History 1</p>

<p>

This course, the first year of a required two-year sequence, surveys European and world history from the Renaissance (1450) through the Age of Enlightenment (1750) up to 1900. Emphasis is on the rise of the European nation states; the scientific, economic, industrial, and political revolutions; colonialism; the new imperialism and its impact on Asia and Africa; nationalistic movements in Europe; and the long-term causes of World War I.

<p>Senior Year - IB History 2</p>

This detailed study of 20th century history completes the requirement for the higher-level IB History examination. The first semester focuses on the causes, practices, and effects of war; the rise of single-party states; and the work of international organizations and minorities in the modern state. Second-semester topics include nationalistic political movements, decolonization, social change, the artist and society, and religion and politics.

<p>Honestly, I’m not sure if it would matter. I’m sure AP World would help you with IB History and IB History help you with AP World. Honestly, your IB History 1 looks EXACTLY like my PIB World History class.</p>

<p>I think it would be best to self-study AP world history before you do IB history because AP exams are based more on facts, while IB exams focus on historical analysis and are composed principally of non multiple choice questions.</p>

<p>Unfortunately we have county and state requirements swin2daend, so we never had a Pre-IB History Class (We take AP Gov and AP US History).</p>

<p>Just out of curiosity…why aren’t you interested in self-studying AP Euro also? In fact, it seems like the curriculum you have might better facilitate that.</p>

<p>That is unfortunate that you’re bound by state requirements. In my state, if you are an IB diploma candidate, you do not have to fulfill those.</p>

<p>pinnipotto, Seniors (in the school’s debate team) told me that it was best to self study Euro Senior Year. Apparently only 2 people (out of 37) got 5s self studying for Euro Junior Year.</p>

<p>I hear Florida is very generous with IB students!</p>
