AP World History

I’m self studying for the exam using both a textbook and PR’s guide and I noticed that PR was seriously lacking in information about the Persian Empires. No Alexander the Great, no Persian Wars, pretty much nothing. I was planning on breaking from the textbook since it was said on here if you completely cover a review book you’ll do alright. Though I’m starting to get a little nervous. Is the exam really that vague? I dont really have the time to weed through all 1000+ pages of the text but I’m feeling like I dont have much of a choice.

Please somebody who’s taken the exam tell me if all the little details of every civilization is nessesary or if I just need a basic overview like what’s given in the review books.

Thanks!

blahbalh, first of all , self studying is honestly not a bad way for AP art hist. exam. I really got a lot out from self studying rather than lectures in class, so im sure you will do fine…

BUT A review book that I STRONGLY suggest is go to this site. http://www.powells.com/biblio?isbn=9780738602127</a>
this book really is the best at it in my opinion; it has awesome practice MC questions as well as excellent and relevant details and anaylsiss. In short, its really complete…i mean its really complete

and princeton review isnt really bad, in fact PR is really not bad for any AP exa. I suggest that u look at this after u read the textbook and t he prep bok i first suggested u. pr got the main concepts down insted of every little detail, so it will help u to get a bigger picutre.

I used the prep book i recommended u and Pr and got a 5, with 3 A’s and 1 B in the class. Good LUCK!!!

Oh and i f u cant really finish a textbook, then just go trhough the the prep book i recommended and PR. ( PR isnt honestly enough; it got the conepts but lacks necessary details so read the other one as well)

and dont worry if u dont have time to finish text. I didnt finish text either, u will do fine!!!

Basic overview. The questions are very general. Take a look at the 2008, 2009 AP World History Course description.

I took this exam last year and got a 3.

Make sure to spend plenty of time on East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East. One of them always seems to pop up on one of the essays as a choice to write about.

If you read the review books, say Barron’s wh, pretty diligently, you won’t have too much trouble with the multiple choice.I got a 5 on this last year, and i thought the multiple choice was breeze. Work on timing and concentrate on writing good thesis’s for your essays and you’ll be set.

I got a 5 Freshman year by self studying. I overkilled. I studied the entire book up and down and memorized tidbits of information such as the Assyrians and the development iron. If you love history, you’ll have a fun time studying this though.

do you need barrons to supplement PR for APWH (im taking the class btw and i have PR currently)

the ap world test last year was really easy. Especially the MC and DBQ. I studied way too much for that test. It was my first AP test so I didn’t sleep at all the day before.

After the mc, I only wrote the essays for like an hour. I knew I already got a 5 after writing the dbq and the change over time essay, so I just went to sleep for the remainder of the test. I was too tired to think anymore anyways.

Barrons is good to use for the class. PR is too short and abridged to use for class, but it is really good for the AP test.

The PR practice tests are much much harder than the actual test.

you definitely need the barrons. i took the class but never ever paid attention, studied with the barrons a week before the exam ( no kidding) and got a 5. the barrons is your saviour but write a couple of essays once a month to get the hang of them (especially the dbq which i hear is weighted the most).

all the essays are weighted same.

“Change over time.” Love it or leave it.

so barron’s over PR???

i would say pr over barron’s.

What about Kaplan or 5 steps to a 5?

From takin the ap world history exam last year, I realized that there wasn’t a lot on the early civilizations but on my test there was a lot on like the architectural structures and which structure belonged to certain civilizations. Also know some of the trade routes. Thats kind of crucial because a motmot the frqs are on trade routes. Good luck!!

From what I’ve seen, the College Board is infatuated with trade routes, and the changes surrounding them.

Will a Penguin’s New History of the World get me through this exam?

What is the most in-depth AP study book? Should I get Barron’s, Powell’s or Princeton Review?
