apartment in NYC

My son just got a job in NYC. He will be making a decent salary, but not by NY standards. lol I have looked through past threads and have looked on streateasy and such. Is there a site that we can look to see if anyone is looking for a roommate? He wants to be in Manhattan. If not there, then Jersey City or Hoboken. We looked at craigslist but it kind of creeps me out.

Craigslist is the very best bet. My D lives in NY, currently Brooklyn. She and her best friend are the leaseholders on a 4 bedroom loft. She places ads on craigslist all the time for roommates, and even for subletting a space for a month, and gets a ton of responses. She has never yet had a month where she and friend have had to pay for an empty room. The thing with craigslist, as with all online sites, is one has to be savvy, and if it looks too good to be true, it’s probably not true. Your S will need to be prepared to put down $300-500 immediately to hold a room (my D does not take checks for deposits). You don’t mention his rent budget, but I just threw $1000 in to craigslist Manhattan and came up with some decent spaces. Brooklyn will provide even better bang for his buck and it is (from most areas in Brooklyn) easy to get to the city by subway.

Other that craigslist I do not know pf another roommate site that works.
