<p>I have a question: In the common app essay which asks you to describe one of your activities, would it be to your advantage to describe an activity related to your proposed field of study?
This is probably posted in the wrong forum, but I really wanted to hear the opinions of some Duke students… (and propsective students).</p>
<p>I’m not a student but I think that if you have an activity that is related to your field of study AND it is meaningful to you and/or the community then it’d be great to use as your activity.</p>
<p>IMHO, the essay is a way for adcoms to get a better sense of how you spend your time and why. A cynic would say that it’s a way to prove you aren’t just padding your CV or app when you did all those ECs.</p>
<p>It doesn’t really matter–just pick an activity which you can write an engaging and compelling short essay for. Keep them interested.</p>
