App Questions

1) Would I would be able to post a link or pdf file containing novellas that I wrote throughout high school? I believe it would go in the extracurricular section of the app. I’m not sure if it would be even appropriate to include the novellas.

2) When should I ask my teachers for letters of recommendations? Would the beginning of the school year, right when I get back, be appropriate? I don’t want to make the teachers feel as if I’m being pushy about it. Should I print out the teacher’s part of the form of the paper app then tell then that I’ll send them a link to the common app later? (I’m not too familiar with how sending the letters work.)

3) I heard that all accounts made on the Common App prior to August 1 would be erased. Would I have to wait for the Common App to “open” to begin on my college apps after August 1 or would it automatically be there? Open as in the same way that universities open their apps. (Sorry if that’s a stupid question.)

4) How important is your selected major? I’m not completely sure on what I want to be later on. It’s between pharmacy, forensics, and law. Would it be bad if I put undecided?

Although I do not know the answer to your first question (sorry- I am a rising senior as well and don’t know many specifics for the common app either!), I can help your with your other three questions. I am sure your counselors can help you with the specifics.

-I would ask your teachers as soon as you get back to school. You want to make sure you ask them soon enough so that they do not get too many requests before you get a chance to, so when you do ask them, they have reached their limit of how many they feel like they can write.

-Wait until August 1st to open your common app account. It will be erased so don’t even bother to start it until then.

-As far as I know, your selected major doesn’t mean a lot when applying to college because many students change their minds at some point throughout their four years. As far as putting undecided, I don’t think that would hurt you, but I am no expert. Keep in mind some colleges won’t offer that specific major that you are interested in going into.

Hopefully that is of some help to you, best of luck!
