My Daughter heard last week that she got into App. It was her second choice, and we were shocked to hear so soon. She’s going to apply for the honors college, but I’m wondering how likely that is.
Here are quick stats:
Class rank: 1/55
GPA: 4.0 UW
ACT: 34
APs: 8 (all the ones offered by her school); all rest honors
Lots of leadership, NCSVSM, Governor’s School, great essays and LOR if those even matter.
In State
Plans to double major in Theater and Chemistry
Guessing it’s a given and not sure why you are surprised you got admitted.
That said they say it’s holistic so do great essays but I can’t imagine a student like this doesn’t get in
“Your GPA and class rank are important, but your goals, achievements, ambition, curiosity, service, resiliency, leadership, and commitment to make a difference mean even more.”
Great school but you are, statistically, far above. What’s the top choice ?
Extremely likely. Mine was accepted into App honors college with similar stats, though in a class of 500 kids, so they weren’t ranked #1. She may even be up for the scholarship that covers everything!
If she’s up for the Morehead, Honors at App isn’t an issue.
Given the stats, and Governor School, UNC isn’t a slam dunk but possible.
There was no interest in NC State?
I think your UNC / App application strategy (those two) is great and you already got into one. Even if you didn’t get into Honors, you can have a great experience.
Does theater at each require an audition? Could that be an issue?
Those stats, with governors school and up for Morehead is pretty much a slam dunk for acceptance. Did she put that she is a M-C nominee on her app? Mine was also a M-C nominee (did not receive it) and got into UNC with a 4.5w/3.9uw and 33 ACT. I’d say they are pretty much a sure thing for UNC-CH.
