Appalachian State

UW 2.97/W 3.475
I’m going into my junior year and want to know my chances at App State. It’s my first choice, but I’ve slacked around a lot. I’m a legacy at the university and have 5 family members that have graduated in the last 25 years. My family are members of the Yosef Club, regularly donate, and give endowments to the university. I have strong extra curriculars and my class load has been difficult the past two years. I’m taking the SAT in the fall and will take it however many times needed to have a suitable score.

I know my GPA doesn’t make my chances strong, but does my alumni connections and their regular donations help? My parents are well known in the athletic department and have given a few endowments over the past few years. I’m curious to find out if that will make my application stand out a bit more than other students.

They only “consider” legacy so it’s not highly weighted. The admissions office generally doesn’t check with the alumni office. If your family is building them a new gym the alumni office might mention it to admissions. Only 1.53% of admitted freshmen had a GPA similar to yours. Weighted GPA isn’t counted. You still have a year to raise your grades. It’s impossible to predict chances but even more so when you haven’t taken the SAT yet. Pay attention to page 9 of this document:
