Appeal Database

For many students it is diffcult to determine when an appeal is valid and what is expected especially with so varying school policies on them.
This thread is to help those people.
For those that have ever written an appeal and especially those that have received their results please post who you appealed to, length, reason for appeal, the school you applied to and anything else you view as significant.

Appeal to UCB(wrote it for UCB and changed it for UCLA) and UCLA (appealing to Mudd and Duke too but those are not done yet and aren’t likely to work)
Length- 3 pages, arial, 9.5 font, 2750 words
Reasons-

  1. Ill preparation by previous spanish teachers affected my Spanish 3 grade and gpa(to the tune of .145 points)
  2. My school, town and parent’s protective nature severaly limited the ECs available to me especially in Math and science(physics major)
  3. New grades that illustrate that my dip in junior year was a fluke(Spanish 3)
  4. New ECs. Highlighted 6th grade wilderness school counselor volunteer work
    Time Spent on it
At least 11 days, Some days were not very intense, Some days were devoted completely to it(2 hours of sleep)
    Recommendations
    4
    Additional Documents
    New Transcript
    Scicon Counselor Eval.
2 1+ page completely new essays (for Berkeley, UCLA is much more direct about what to include so I didn’t include any)
    Chances
I received entrance into a program for UCLA and UCB that is for those that “narrowly missed admission”

was this from this year? and did you already recieve admission to cal and ucla? the appeals were only due 3 days ago, did you already hear back from them?

No, I probably should have mentioned that. No response yet.

Reasons-

That’s not a valid reason, blaming teachers for your grades is a BIG NO in college applications and appeals.

Maybe, but you might need to provide a bit more detail.

Nothing new.

This is probably the only new and compelling information in your appeal.

Maybe they’ll read it, maybe they won’t. Appeals are for corrections and clarifications to your original application, not supplements which is what these extra essays are.

They got my appeal: Their response so far-

Even if it’s rejected (which is virtually most likely), I’m happy to be attending either UC: Santa Barbara or Irvine w00t w00t!
