Appeal Letter for College Transcripts

I am in need of help with an appeal letter to my former college (from years ago) to release my transcripts that they are “holding” for what they say is unpaid tuition. I attended this colege on a Leadership Scholorship which they are saying they don’t see in my records. Fortunatley, I still have the award letter. I didn’t attend this college or any other during the time that they are trying to bill me for…any suggestions?

This is what I have so far. All comments and suggestions are welcome and thanks in advance.

To whom it may concern:

My name is ___________ and I was a former student at the College of _______ in the fall of 1994 and the spring of 1995. I was the recipient of a Leadership Scholarship (which I have attached a copy of) awarded by the College of , and the first of six children in my single parent (low-income) family to attend college. Since attending the College of __ four of my sibling and my mother have attended and graduated from ____ with either a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, the latest being this week. It was unfortunate that I was unable to continue my education at that time in my life. I had planned on moving out of state to North Carolina and was unable to finish school.

Living in North Carolina has been a blessing for me. I am married to a wonderful husband of twelve years and have a beautiful 11 year old son. I have worked in retail management for the past twelve years of my life and was recently part of a corporate “lay-off” of around 300 employees. The unemployement rate in the county I live in is the highest in the state and the fourth worst in the nation, last I knew. I have decided to continue my education and pursue another career with a degree in _______. I have applied and been accepted to the local college here and I need your help. I am only awaiting my transcripts that have a “hold” on them for what I have been told was an unpaid balance for 1996 (if I am not mistaken). The balance I was not aware of and I did not attend for the period of time for which these charges are being billed. I am pressed for time since the final registration for the summer session at the college I plan to attend is May 13. Your attention and ability to expedite the process of the release of my transcripts would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,
___________:slight_smile: (minus the smile!)
