Appeal Rejection

When I applied to my top school, I received an email saying that my major was not accepting new students effective immediately. In the email, I was told that i was going to be considered as another major however I didnt do well in that class in highschool and my regents grade was low. I was recently denied however my grades/GPA, and SAT scores were above the requirement. Is this enough information for an appeal? According to college confidential, this university does not usually accept waitlisted students or appeals but im curious if this could help me get in. Thank you

The stated requirements are minimum requirements and meeting them does not guarantee acceptance.

Do you think if i called and asked them to reconsider me for a different major would they automatically say no or do colleges do that? I was told in the email that if i wanted to change my major i could email and ironically i was planning on emailing the upcoming monday but i received the rejection letter on friday. I dont really know much about this topic and colleges since im applying for undergrad and out of 12 schools this was the only one i was denied from, and unfortunately this was the only school i wanted to go to.
