Appealers: On what ground did you appeal?

I know there’s alot of appeals going on today, so I’m just wondering what information everyone is using to appeal.

Structure your response as so…

School’s Appealing to:
Grounds for Appeal:

Me first…
School’s Appealing to: UCD
Grounds for Appeal: I was told I could take a prerequisite class over the Summer by the Dean of my department in January, when I called to find out why I was rejected, it was because I did not have that class done by Spring. I claimed that I would’ve found a way to take the class Spring semester had I known my admission hinged on it.

I had an almost identical appeal last year. Didn’t work.

School’s Appealing to: UCLA UCSD
Grounds for Appeal:

-Mislabeled a course, causing an accidental “F” against my GPA
-elaborated on extenuating circumstances affecting my early semesters of college (did not go into detail in my P.S.)
-Detailed my research and club experience and what i have gained from each

I kept it as brief as i could, as opposed to a long story-form essay.

Im pretty sure the mislabeled course is the only thing they’ll care about though.

Hmm, I thought of appealing to UCI, but I’d rather not since I don’t really have anything to add .

UCD offered me a waitlist spot, but since they had all types of strange requirements , like writing a short essay on why I wanted to attend UCD , and raising my GPA a bit ( any other semester I would of been down for this challenge, but with a hard science class and a language its not happening this time). This sucks since as a poli-sci major UCD has the best department. UCB is great too, but think of all the internships you can get when you live right next to the state capital .

School’s Appealing to: UCI, UCSD
Grounds for Appeal:

-Got an F erased by Academic Renewal
-Won a top award at my school
-Explained why I went to CSUF (during high school long story) if that had bearing on my selection decision
-For UCI I don’t feel my decision was made fairly because it was made so late after deadline 5/10/11
-stated that this should be enough to grant me my once guaranteed admission

School’s Appealing to: UCI
Grounds for Appeal: I asked my admissions counselor why I’d been rejected even though I TAG’d, and she told me that I didn’t take a required bio class (a prerequisite for my major) which voided my TAG. However, I had taken it, but my CC changed the course title the year after I’d taken it. My counselor looked it up, and saw that I indeed completed the prerequisite, acknowledged that UCI made a mistake, and said that I should appeal.

So I mostly just detailed this in my appeal, with a brief paragraph on why I wanted to go to UCI and why I’d make a good edition to their Ecology and Evolutionary Bio department.

@thecomfycat

Sounds like you’re in! :D

Schools: UCLA, California
Grounds: Im too sexy to be rejected

does anyone know when are appeal descisions posted for Cal?

do you guys know if you can appeal to a different major, because you do not want the one that you applied for? and im not takling from like human bio to like reg bio. i switched from physiological science to Econ at UCLA…lol

Just thought I’d mention that my appeal (to UCI) was granted, and I was accepted into my major. It says I have admission conditions (“personalized transfer conditions”), but they haven’t posted these conditions yet. So I’m excited, but wary.

@thecomfycat: How did you find out so soon, I’m still waiting on my UCI appeal as well

^ I’m not sure, really. Perhaps because my case was fairly straight forward, they were able to make a decision faster. I had heard that some appeal decisions would be coming out this week, but I’d thought they would be freshman decisions. Admissions had told me earlier in the week to expect to hear back by mid June.

I’ve just been checking my UCI application site every day rather than waiting for an email (I still haven’t gotten an email about my updated status).

Congrats @thecomfycat.
My conditions were posted the next morning. I was also so anxious to read them I kept checking every few minutes. Good luck, hope it is nothing too hard to accomplish

Thanks, tillyzinha. I hope mine are posted as quickly, but I’m not sure they will be since tomorrow’s Saturday. Were your conditions pretty reasonable?

Mine were actually posted on a sat morning. Yes, they were Pretty reasonable. Gpa of 2.0 spring semester, overall gpa can’t go lower than 2.7. No additional requests.

Sure enough, mine were posted. The only difference from yours is that they want an overall GPA of 3.0 from me (which is standard for any of the bio majors anyway). Looks like I’ll be going to UCI! :)

@thecomfycat CONGRATS. It’s always awesome seeing people get into where they wanted.

@thecomfycat Congratulations!!! I’m still waiting for Cal. I appealed base on two recent scholarships I won. Also, since I’m lacking a course, I explained why I did not get the class in detail.(also with two recom. letters. One is from my boss and the other is from my teacher)
