Appealing a grade

Background info: I took this Spanish class that also had a lab requirement. In order to receive a “Pass” in the lab, I needed 24 hours logged (which was recorded on some software, one of those Myspanishlab things). Anyways, I asked my Prof. three weeks before the semester ended and he said that I had fulfilled the requirement. I asked him a second time a week later just to make sure and he said again that I was fine. However, I do not feel like I actually completed the hours sufficient for me to pass, and I also feel like there was a mutual failure to communicate between the Prof. and I.

Assuming that I am not paranoid, could I successfully appeal a “NP” grade? I would argue that If I had known that I had not completed the minimum time required to pass (which was three weeks prior to the semester ending), I would have completed it by the end of the semester. I also have some some test scores to show that I am not a slacker and complete all my work.

I would also like to know how long the appeals process actually takes because I have to update my UC App sometime this month.
