Appealing with a Portfolio?

I plan to appeal to UC Berkeley. I think it’s a long shot, but it’s the university I most want to attend. I was wondering if, in addition to my personal letter and letters of recommendation, I should include a portfolio? I applied as a landscape architecture major and I feel as though copies of my photographs and sketches may aid me in the appeal process.

I think that is a good idea in your case. It gives them new, additional information they did not have and it demonstrates passion and interest.

Thank you for the reply! I was hoping the portfolio would have that intent.

I thought they don’t accept letters of recommendations?
Would we be able to include a resume on the appeal?

“Include your UC application ID number in your letter and submit it with all accompanying materials (i.e. seventh semester grades or a letter of recommendation) in a single envelope.”
That quote is from Berkeley’s FAQ page of undergraduate admissions under the appealing section. The UCs don’t accept letters of recommendation under normal conditions, but for appealing they’re allowed. As long as the information on your resume wasn’t already in your application, I’d say go for it.

I am appealing with a portfolio as well. How long and personal are your guys’ appeals? Will it be just “here’s some stuff not on my app, reconsider me” or what? At the moment mine is like a second personal statement combined with a portfolio (to make up for my weak personal statements), but I’m not so sure the adcom wants to see such a long and drawn out appeal. Thoughts?

I’d say you probably don’t want to go past a page, but I am certainly not the authority on the subject. You’ve got nothing to lose when you appeal, so why not include everything you feel will aid you?

Is the appeal single spaced?
I want to include me being suspended and tell the story, but at the same time I feel that might come out as negative because of the simple fact that it is a suspension.

To everybody who appealed to UC Berkeley:
