Apple iPod vs. Dell DJ

I’m not sure which one to get but the DJ is looking much better than the iPod right now. Its more compatible with more websites and gives you the same amount of space for a lot less money (plus it looks better)! But I’m still want to go with the “traditional” iPod? What do you think? Add any comments, I’m OPEN!!!

iPod’s too sexy to pass up.

“Its more compatible with more websites” - This is a non-factor. Unless you have a ton of WMV files that you want to put on your player (iPod doesn’t do WMV), you shouldn’t have a problem. iPods play MP3s, AIFFs, WAVs, AACs, and a couple other even lesser known formats. While they’re only compatible with the iTunes Music Store, it has one of the biggest catalogs out there.

I have an iPod and what makes it awesome is the interface + click wheel. Play with one at an Apple Store for 5 minutes, and you’ll see what I mean. Even though I have 3,000 some songs, it takes < 5 seconds to find any one of them.

can you erase songs?

yeah, you can erase songs/add new songs whenever you want.

justforgetme is right, the apple interface is sooo easy to work with. You can browse by playlists, albums, artists, and genres. It’s very easy to find any of your music. I’ve noticed that with other mp3 players (not the dell DJ specifically, but others) that they have buttons (as opposed to a click wheel) and this makes scrolling through your music a much slower process. Also, their menus tend to be more confusing. I may be a bit biased though…I’m in love with my ipod.

Get the Dell DJ because it is much better coming from someone who knows.

Get the Apple iPod because it is much better coming from someone who knows more than omniscient does :D.

Actually, Dell has some pretty sweet deals on the DJ every once in awhile, but I still love the iPod (4G). My only two gripes with it are lack of a good built-in equalizer (it’s weak, you can only choose from presets, and although iTunes can equalize, it’s not the same) and the fact that it scratches so easily.

I’m asking for an iPod for Christmas. Much better looking and easier to use.

the DJ only allows you to download copyrighted music to the player, so you can’t always upload your already purchased music. There was a review in the Philadelphia Inquirer this week, sighting the pros of the ipod being its ease of use and the ability to put any music on it. The cons listed were for the ipod mini, being that it had a slightly smaller storage capacity but the regular ipod has a larger one. The pro for the DJ was its sleek apearance, and the cons were that the software was difficult, it put up “inscrutable” error messages, it only worked on PCs and only allows you to play copyrighted music.
id go with the ipod. :)

ipod. everything else is a cheap imitation.

iplayoboe-I’m no fan of the Dell DJ, but it can play normal copyright free MP3s. It says so on the link that JuliusMonkey posted.

what about iRivers?

I don’t know, but the Ipod looks so darn appealing to resist. It’s got that perfect conservative styling and easy to use interface. It’s more expensive than Dell’s, but still…

IPod > Dell DJ

I’m biased, but i heart my iPod. =)

The iRiver is arguably better than the iPod (just as the iPod as arguably better than the iRiver). The two are very, very close.

In the end, I still chose to get a 4G iPod, but the iRiver’s OGG support/FM tuner/optical line out among other features were very appealing. I like the iPod mostly because of its size.

Ahh, this isn’t /. no need to bring up OGG, the format without a purpose.
