You can get the rubber or plastic bumpers which do a really good job, I think. You can also get a film for over the screen. Both do well. I would do both for someone accident prone. I just have the bumper. I wear mine along with my Garmin to run, and I’ve been known to fall, so I rely on the bumper.
I agree with not getting the series 3, but get the series 5. As the series 6 will be out in the near future, you don’t want an old tech version. My daughter is happy with her 3, but she got it from work when they first came out.
While I don’t have my watch yet, and not accident prone, I will not start with the bumper, but they look like a nice addition for those that need it; might change my mind after wearing it for a while!
One thing I think is that Apple really stepped up on the watch from the earlier series, is the medical features. I know 2 people who bought a newer series the main reason was because of the advanced medical features.
The heart rate is really accurate. I’ve been impressed. It’s a number I’m watching even more closely now with the virus since I think mine will go up if I start to get sick.
@FlyMeToTheMoon I am eyeing that band even though I have not received my watch yet! Best Buy has it for $20 off, so thinking about going ahead and ordering it; I can always return if I don’t like it.
I didn’t realize that the aluminum and stainless steel series 5 watch were 2 different colors of gold until I was playing on the Apple site. I am guessing they made the stainless steel band to match the stainless steel face-duh! I am going to trust you that the color difference is not great, but again, that is what returns are for.
So while Costco hasn’t shipped my watch yet, and you can not get customer service on the phone, I decided to call my local store. According to the guy that answered, they have 29 gold watches in stock, but he couldn’t tell me if they were with cellular or not. Now, since I have so much time on my hands, I am thinking about going during senior hour. If I do that, I have a few other things I could get while there. I haven’t been to a store since March 13, so not sure I should go to Costco; might wait and send my husband; after all, this is suppose to me a Mother’s Day gift.
@snowball , I hope you’re happy with it. I love mine, even though I have an aversion to rose gold. But my eye is drawn to the band when I lift my wrist. Good luck!
COSTCO is taking a lot of precautions. I would feel comfortable going there.
@MomofWildChild They are indeed. My son is a physician and decided to go 2 weeks ago early, as Costco is allowing those in the medical field to move to the front of the entrance, if there is a line. There was not a line, but he was able to go during senior hour. He was so excited to be in Costco again that I think he bought enough food for weeks!!
I am going to call the store again in the morning to see if I can get a better idea if they have the size I want. I have decided to get the one with cellular; well today I have, might change my mind again if they done have it in stock!
Apple Pay is so easy to use with Apple Watch. Instant and touchless. I have a 4. I don’t have a protection for the face but it hasn’t scratched. I had it for more than 2 years. I fell once and Siri came on. Heart monitoring was also excellent.
So I’m going with the 5. I’m a big Costco shopper and am surprised they are charging $5 shipping for warehouse pickup (and home delivery). Its backordered until 6/1 - which I can live with, but Target has it available for pickup now. Not sure if the Costco warranty benefit is worth it (or what it is these days). Does anyone know any other bonus Costco is giving with this product? Usually they have an angle…
@suzyQ7 I also don’t love that Costco charges for in store pickup. That said, most items include shipping in the posted price, although almost everything I have order online with them during COVID, each item has had it own shipping charge-toilet paper, papertowels, Clorox Wipes, etc… My watch is on the same order with my husband’s Kirkland brand of Rogaine, and both have individual shipping charges, so didn’t matter if I ordered together or separate. I thought maybe shipping was charged if coming from the manufacturer, but wouldn’t the Kirkland Rogaine come from Costco’s warehouse?
If you are using a Costco Citi card, you do have an extra year or warranty at Costco; do not know if that applies if you use it at a non Costco store.
I just pulled the trigger on Costco (even with the $5 extra charge - ugh) because Target is now also out of stock and doesn’t give the ability to order it backordered at the same price.
Now to find the proper bumper and screen protector! Open to suggestions
I think I am going to like the gold watch band @FlyMeToTheMoon . Order yesterday from Best Buy because of the sale and it was just delivered. The only problem is, if I want to return, it has to be returned by May 31; I don’t know if my watch will be here by then to test it out. I guess I can always go to Costco or Target and hold it up to the display model to make sure I like the color difference. I believe it will be fine; it’s not like the sports band matches, but as this is metal, I could be anal and not like the difference.
I have too much time on my hand as I am over thinking everything
I think I posted a bumper link earlier in this thread.
I think this will help on apples website:
Google Apple Watch, design, create your style, get started. Then put all the things together.
@snowball, I built my watch around the gold band. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s so comfortable and easy to take on and off. I’m pretty anal, but the choices of watch colors in the aluminum case were limited. I didn’t even notice that the aluminum was a rose gold until the genius at our local Apple store was adamant that I should not pair the two. Because of the texture in the Milanese band, the two golds really blend beautifully.
Keep in mind you will be viewing the watch from above the face, and very little of the case shows from that view. I’ve been wearing long sleeves since I received the watch (Christmas), so maybe I would view it differently if I wore a lot of short sleeved clothing. If it ever gets warm here, I’ll see. But by that time, even if I’m not happy with the pairing, I’m so in love with my watch that I’ll probably view it through rose colored glasses. ?
@suzyQ7 Links to 2 different watch bumpers in Posts #23 & 24.
Just got an email from Costco; my phone shipped and will be here Tuesday! As the cellular phone was due to ship later than the GPS, but shipped first, I cancelled the GPS only; decided to kept the cellular model.
Funny, my husband said, keep the cell version as we waste money on lesser items. I do think while I am furloughed is not a great time to waste money, in the event I don’t return to work. Not sure how many medical clinics are going to be looking to hire a 63 year old. I have decided to wait to worry.
I don’t think you need a wireless model. The wifi model would be enough for you. I had only wifi one!
You don’t drop the watch as often as you do a phone. The watch is on you most of time and usually doesn’t fall off. Just saying you may not need a protector as much.
